Calvin Thean graduated from the National University Of Singapore with Second Upper Honours in 1992. He commenced practice in Messrs. Tang & Tan as a legal assistant until 1996. He thereafter practiced in Messrs. James Chia & Co from 1997 to 1999 before joining Messrs. Chris Chong & C T Ho Partnership as a partner.
Calvin regularly advises clients on the incorporation of companies in Singapore as well as on matters relating to corporate governance & regulatory compliance under the provisions of the Singapore Companies Act (Chapter 50).
His specialty is in representing and advising clients on a wide range of commercial documentation such as shareholders and joint-venture agreements, investment agreements, sale and purchase of shares/business agreements, licensing agreements, and memorandums of understanding (MOU). Mr. Thean also advises and represents clients in technology related transactions, such as software development, IT consultancy services, software distribution and licensing, outsourcing proposals, non-disclosure/confidentiality undertakings, and e-commerce transactions. His philosophy is that the contracts should always suit the clients’ commercial needs and interests, and not the other way around.
Calvin represents individuals and corporations in sale and purchase of properties (completed as well as under construction) comprising of residential (private and HDB), commercial and industrial (HDB and JTC) properties. He also represents local and foreign financial in the preparation of security documents for loans, refinance, additional facilities, mortgagee sale and redemption of residential and commercial properties.
Calvin also regularly undertakes non-contentious probate cases, divorce proceedings, as well as general solicitors’ work such as drafting of wills, deed polls, and power of attorneys.
With his experience in litigation, corporate and conveyancing law, Calvin has been put on retainer by a number of companies in different industries such real estate, human resource and IT to advice on their day-to-day issues. |
